Abstract

Treatment of salivary gland tumors is still contraversial since their histopathological structures are not uniformed. Tumors of salivary glands constitute 3% of total body tumors and 80% and 10-15% of them are originated from parotid and submandibular glands, respectively. Rest of small percentages of salivary gland tumors are originated from sublingual gland and minor salivary glands located in aerodigestive region. In this study, we retrospectively examined files of 112 patients who came our ENT clinic at Fırat University, Fırat Medical Center with complications of masses in salivary glands. Distribution of origins of 112 salivary gland masses of parotid, submandibular and minor salivary glands are 60 (57.3%), 45 (40.1%) and 7 (6.2%) respectively. Percentages of benign cases of parotid, submandibular and minor salivary gland masses were 83.3%, 86.6%, 42.8%, respectively. On the other hand, 16.6% of parotid, 13.3% of submandibular gland and 57.1% of minor salivary gland masses were malignant. In this study, we present analysis of histopathological reports and treatment of 112 cases along with current knowledge.
