The Use of the Forehead Flap in the Reconstruction of the Major Nasal Defects

Abstract

 

 

 

Objectives: The aim of the study is to evaluate the paramedian forehead flap in the reconstruction of the major nasal defects and to compare the results with other reconstruction methods.

Materials and Methods: Paramedian forehead flap has been performed in reconstruction of 10 cases with major nasal defects between April 1997 and December 2000 in Istanbul University, Faculty of Medicine. All of the cases were surgically ablated cases due to nasal carcinomas. 

Results: The reconstruction in all cases revealed out satisfactory results. The main complication was the postoperative deformity which was encountered as a result of contraction of the inner lining of the nasal cavity.

Conclusion: Paramedian forehead flap is a versatile and cost-effective method for the reconstruction of defects following major surgical procedures of the nose.
