In this paper we presented a case of cylindroma, who had been admitted to our clinic with pre-auricular mass. The lesion was surgically excised and as a result of histopathologic evaluation, the lesion was diagnosed a cylindroma of the sweat glands. The sweat gland tumors are classified as apocrine hydrocystoma, syringocystadenoma papilliferum, syringoma, chondroid syringoma and cylindroma. Cylindroma is a neoplasm of primitive elements that differentiate toward apocrine structures. However, the same elements also have eccrine differentiation, though not frequent. Cutaneous cylindromas are seen as solitary lesions on the scalp and face, but multiple tumors also occur frequently. They may occur at any age, but most commonly arise in the third and fourth decade. Women are affected at least twice as often as men. The treatment is by surgical excision. We presented this rare case along with related literature reviews. |
